Self-Care in the New Year

Consumers’ annual “wellbeing reset” will be upon us soon, and the new year offers an abundance of opportunities to engage shoppers with enticing promotions. To help customers get excited for wellness offerings in 2026, NCG has negotiated BOGOs with 12 brands (on more than 75 SKUs) for the January A Co+op Deals period. These BOGOs will appear in the Co+op Deals flyer and on the Co+op Deals app. More details and related materials are available on the Wellness BOGO Event Resources page of ncg.coop.

And to help with wellness promotional planning heading into winter, here are several tips to combat the winter blues and drive sales on seasonally appropriate wellness items.

Support Successful Resolutions

Customers are increasingly looking for deals, so leverage their appetite for great value! Display new and trending products and categories that consumers are seeing and reading about on social media.

Cold and Flu Care and Prevention

This season’s cold and flu cases will keep keep care and prevention categories in high demand. Cross-merchandise pain relief items, such as ibuprofen and arnica, herbal supplements and vitamin C with boxed teas, honey and facial tissue on an offshelf display to promote a one-stop solution for illness care. Incorporate hand soap and sanitizer into household cleaning displays to capture additional cold and flu prevention sales. Finally, display complimentary wellbeing items, like lip balms, scented lotions and endorphin-boosting dark chocolates, along with cold care displays to inspire incremental sales.

Heart Healthy Supplements

During American Heart Month in February, don’t simply duplicate your fish oil set on an endcap. Instead, direct your shoppers to just a couple of items — perhaps the smallest and largest sizes of your top-selling products — that offer the best value. The smallest size encourages trial purchase from a shopper new to the category and the largest size encourages a value purchase from an existing customer. Looking for affordable ways to fill out the display? Try canisters of oatmeal or fiber and pouches of flax, hemp and chia. These bulkier, lower-dollar items are consistent with the “heart healthy” message and won’t detract from supplement sales.

Skin Care

Cold weather doesn’t completely deter people from participating in outdoor activities. Display skin and facial lotions, lip balms and salves to promote winter skin care protection. Work with vendor partners to offer individual samples to inspire trial purchases. Seek out local and regional partnership opportunities for events to sponsor or promote that you can tie into skin care promotions.

Valentine’s Day Gifts

Stress relief and wellbeing products continue to show positive trends. In your Valentine’s Day display, offer pre-made or DIY massage oil and bath salt blends, or build a stand-alone display around locally made or fair trade soaps with fun colors and scents. Candle sales peak during this period and are great impulse items. Don’t overlook the Valentine’s Day classics — cross-merchandise this endcap with chocolate bars, and display greeting cards and fresh flowers together in close proximity. Wine and sparkling beverages complement Valentine’s displays well, too.

Be sure to support your winter wellness promotions with coupons, in-store signage or flyers, social media and features in your email newsletter. For even more ideas, review the Promo Playbook and other promotions planning resources on NCG’s website, or contact Patrick Neily for assistance.
